Dierks School Board Approves New Hires and Student Initiatives During Monthly Meeting

The Dierks School Board convened for their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, where several significant decisions were made concerning new hires and other administrative matters.

During the meeting, Testing Coordinator Crystal Smith provided an update on current enrollment at Dierks High School, reporting a total of 254 students—an increase of six students compared to the same period last year. Smith also announced the date for the upcoming Homecoming event.

In a notable addition to Homecoming activities, Smith revealed that the school will host Be Pro Be Proud, an organization dedicated to fostering skilled professionals. Smith said. They’ll be bringing their Trade Truck to the campus to engage with students about potential career opportunities.

Smith also shared that Be Pro Be Proud will be collaborating with Weyerhaeuser to provide students with insights into various job prospects.

In her final update, Smith presented a slide show detailing the new method for calculating letter grades for each school, aimed at providing greater clarity and transparency.

Following a brief executive session, the board approved the hiring of LouAnn Huddleston, Betty Gilbert, and Stephanie Tyson as cafeteria workers for the 2024-2025 school year, in accordance with the district’s salary schedule. Additionally, the board accepted the resignations of cafeteria workers Lynzie Callaway, Tiffani Bond, and Crystal Morris.
