COVID-19 1 Month Update

It’s been 1 month today since I last reported a COVID-19 update. It certainly feels like discussion around COVID has diminished slightly. That progress has been made. The vast majority of our school district in the Southwest Arkansas area have moved away from the mask wearing requirement. And it appears that, in my experience, masks are trending towards being used less in public places. A public resource on COVID figures shows Howard County having had 9 new cases in the last 30 days. Sevier County had 32. Pike County had 12.  Hempstead had 55. And Polk county had 28. Now, Gov. Asa Hutchinson has worked with state and local legislation to push for vaccines within the state of Arkansas. As of 1 month ago today a total of nearly 1.9m Arkansans had received at least their 1st dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Latest reports today put that number at nearly 2.1m for an increase of approximately 8%. 876,114 were reported to have been fully immunized May 23rd with today’s number equalling 968,173. An increase of 9.51%. Arkansas has led campaigns to promote the vaccine such as the giving away of Lottery scratch offs as well as gift certificates good for use with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Currently the vaccine is approved for anyone ages 12 and up.
