Dr. Fugitt retires; Jones re-hired as MHS principal
Board Members of the South Pike County School District held their regular monthly meeting last week.
There was a motion made to rehire Davey Jones as the Murfreesboro High School Principal and to accept the resignation of Dr. Arlene Fugitt. There was a 5 to 1 vote to accept rehiring Davey Jones and the resignation of Dr Arlene Fugitt.
Superintendent Tanya Wilcher discussed the School Safety Grant that the South Pike County School District qualified for in the amount of $117,325 dollars. Wilcher said there was a priority list given and the first thing the grant would have to be spent on is a lockdown door system for the exterior doors of the school campuses. Other priorities that are required for the grant to be spent on are a master key system and an armed presence on campus.
Wilcher mentioned purchasing new batting cages in the amount of $5500. She also discussed the extension of the debt money that was almost over $300,000 that has to be spent on big projects, along with providing an update on the project of the baseball/softball complex. Wilcher stated that she had a civil engineer out of Hot Springs to look at the property and his quote to get started is $13,500. Wilcher also received another quote from a second engineer in the amount of $7,000. Wilcher hopes to start baseball/softball complex project soon.
