Fatal Accident in Hempstead County Claims One Life, Multiple Injured

A tragic two-vehicle collision on Interstate 30 in Hempstead County Monday night resulted in one fatality and several injuries.

According to the Arkansas State Police, the accident involved a 2019 Freightliner semi-truck and a 2009 Honda. Both vehicles were traveling eastbound when the semi-truck struck the Honda, causing both vehicles to veer into the median. The Honda then collided with a group of trees.

The driver of the Honda, 44-year-old Arsenio Maldonado of Dayton, was pronounced dead at the scene. Four individuals, including an unidentified minor, sustained injuries and were transported to St. Michael’s Hospital in Texarkana for treatment.

The investigating state trooper reported that road conditions were clear and dry at the time of the accident.
