Filing period closes in Howard County; several contested races
The filing period for party, most independent, and school board candidates closed at noon yesterday. In Howard County, the filing period ended with a fourth person filing to run as a Republican for Howard County Judge. Steve Nation became the last candidate to file before the deadline. Within the city of Nashville, there has also been two people to file as Republican candidates for the city clerk’s position. Sherry Allen and Lauren Hoen each filed for the office. The Nashville City Council will include two new members. Charles Pinkston filed unopposed for Ward Five, Position Two and former Finance Director, Jimmy Dale, filed unopposed for Ward 6, Position Two.
On the Howard County Quorum Court, Two candidates filed for J.P. District 4 to be a new member. In J.P. District 6, Elizabeth McDaniel was the only person to file before Tuesday’s deadline.
There will also be two new county elected officials next year. Cindy Butler filed unopposed for the assessor’s position, while Matt Smith was the only person to file for Howard County Coroner.
On the Dierks School Board, Zones one through four will each have contested races. Only one candidate filed for the Dierks Zone Five seat.
For the Mineral Springs City Council, there will be a contested race in Ward 3, Position One. William Tabler has filed as a Republican and Vanessa Hendrix filed as a Democrat.
