Former Howard County Forester hired for project at UA-Pine Bluff
A former state forester who served Howard County has been hired as a consultant for a project through the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff.
Justin Mallett has been hired as a consultant forester for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Keeping it in the Family Sustainable Forestry and African American Land Retention Program. The program provides educational resources and technical assistance to African American forest landowners to protect and retain their family land for future generations.
Mallett has served as a partner for the program since its inception in 2016. In that capacity, he has helped educate Arkansas forest landowners through the program’s in-person and virtual outreach meetings. He also makes regular site visits with the team, helping landowners across southern Arkansas find ways to improve their land’s sustainability and profitability.
For over nine years, Mallett worked for the Arkansas Department of Agriculture Forestry Division as a county forester, serving Howard, Polk and Sevier Counties. In 2021, he left that position to open his own company.
