Gov. Hutchinson calls special session for Aug. 8

Governor Asa Hutchinson has called a special session for lawmakers to return to Little Rock August 8th, with the purpose being to reduce the state’s tax collection rate.  The announcement was made Tuesday, following a report that indicated Arkansas has a net surplus of 1.6 billion dollars for the fiscal year.  That figure represents the largest surplus in Arkansas history and is attributed to the state’s job creation coming out of the pandemic and increased consumer buying power.

Specific items for the special session will be announced at a later date.
