High speed pursuit results in crash and arrest
At approximately 6:25 PM on February 19, 2023, Nashville K9 Officer Greg Parker attempted to perform a traffic stop on a 2008 silver Mercury Marquis for expired vehicle tags near the intersection of Reece Street and Ansley Street. The vehicle pulled into a vacant lot but then drove away at a high rate of speed. Officer Parker initiated his vehicles emergency lights and siren and notified the on-duty dispatcher that he was in a pursuit with the vehicle. Nashville Patrol Officer Dillon Roberts joined in the pursuit which took officers across numerous city street with the suspect vehicle traveling in the wrong lane of traffic and running multiple stop signs. The vehicle entered onto Arkansas Highway 278 and headed towards Hope. The vehicle was being driven erratically, swerving within it’s on lane and occasionally going into the opposite lane of traffic and reaching speeds of just under eighty miles per hour.
During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle passed two eighteen wheelers carrying oversize logging equipment and on multiple occasions, on-
coming traffic was forced onto the shoulder. Approximately 3-4 miles from Nashville the suspect vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree and
overturned coming to a rest on the cab of the vehicle.
The driver was identified as Zakheus Kairon Box, black male, date of birth 08/25/2002, of Nashville. Box was pinned in the vehicle and first
responders had to remove doors from the vehicle to remove him. Box was taken by ambulance to Howard Memorial Hospital where he was later flown by helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs as a result of his injuries. There was also a passenger in the vehicle who received minor injuries.
Officers on the scene could smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from the suspect vehicle and during a search of the car, six individual bags of suspected marijuana weighing a total of 8.2 ounces was located, along with empty plastic bags and one Beretta 9mm semi-automatic pistol with one high-capacity magazine and one fifteen round magazine. Both magazines were loaded.
Zakheus Kairon Box is charged with Felony Fleeing, Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance Marijuana with Purpose to Deliver,
Simultaneous Possession of Drugs and Firearms, and Possession of Firearms by Certain Persons. Box is a probationer with the state of Arkansas.
