Howard County Court 7/21
Howard County Court met Wednesday seeing 26 YO Avante Evans. Evans is currently being held in jail on a $250,000 bond for alleged attempted capital murder. Facts Constituting Reasonable Cause are as follows: On June 30th, Howard County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call from an unknown female that states that 20 YO Thaji Beal was at the Main Street apartments in Mineral Springs and had a gun. Mineral Springs Officer Nathan Cornish was the first officer to arrive at the scene. Cornish exited his vehicle in an attempt to make contact with Beal and within seconds a black male started shooting in the direction of Cornish and Beal. At least 4 shots were fired towards them with one round striking Cornish’s patrol vehicle through the front windshield, passing through the driver’s seat headrest, and lodging in the plexiglass of the prisoner transport cage. The shooter then fled on foot. After interviewing multiple witnesses that identified Avante Evans as the shooter a probable cause affidavit was signed by Judge Tom Cooper for Attempted Capital Murder. Evans turned himself in to the Howard County Sheriff’s Department on July 1st. During an interview held by investigator David Shelton, Evans stated that at the time of the incident he was in Oklahoma. Law Enforcement officers have filed for a search warrant with Evans cell phone company to pull information regarding his whereabouts during this time. Evans is scheduled to return to court on August the 4th.
