Howard County JPs approve several ordinances during July meeting

During the Howard County Quorum Court’s regular monthly meeting yesterday, JPs passed an emergency ordinance to protect the traveling public and maintain county roads. The ordinance prohibits activities such as creating encroachments, defacing, dumping, digging, placing utilities, burning, or parking within the road easement, with fines up to $1,000 for violations.

Treasurer Sherri Mixon discussed ARP funds, noting they currently have $2,212,204.10 and she outlined additional needs to reach their goal.

She also mentioned receiving bids from Diamond Bank and First State Bank for 12-month CDs.

After discussion, JPs decided to renew the CDs with a higher interest rate despite penalties.

Finally, JPs approved an ordinance for the 2024 Howard County Operating Budget.
