Howard County Judge speaks at Nashville Rotary meeting

Howard County Judge Brent Pinkerton spoke at this week’s Nashville Rotary meeting.

Pinkerton stated he has spent more time in Little Rock over the past 10 weeks than he had the previous 10 years. He explained newly elected officials had to attend several meetings to become familiar with all of the state agencies that they will be working with.

Pinkerton also stated Howard County no longer has anyone directly representing the county in the Arkansas Legislature. He said Howard County’s senator if Jimmy Hickey from Texarkana and we have three state representatives. John Maddox of Mena represents the north part of the county. DeAnn Vaught represents the city of Dierks and Danny Watson represents the remainder of the county. Watson is from Hope.

Pinkerton updated the Rotarians concerning two grants. One grant is for the Howard County Airport. He said once the airport builds six additional hangers, the airport could be eligible for federal funds. Pinkerton said that could be between $100,000 and $150,000 each year.

The other grant is for improvements to the North Howard County Rural Water system.

Pinkerton mentioned the state is working to provide high-speed internet to the every part of the state, including the rural portions of Howard County.

He also discussed county roads, which is everyone’s favorite topic.

Pinkerton also mentioned Howard County will be celebrating it 150th anniversary on April 17 and he would be moving the county seat back to Center Point for one day next month.

Pinkerton stated his door is always open and citizens should feel welcome to stop by the courthouse and visit with him.
