Howard Memorial Hospital Board Reviews Financials and Medical Staff Updates at May Meeting

The Howard Memorial Hospital Board of Directors held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, where members received updates on medical staff credentialing and the hospital’s financial performance for the month ending April 30.

During the medical staff report, the board approved the appointment of Dr. Jeffery Covington with Delta Pathology and the reappointment of Dr. Mark Sutherland in surgery.

The financial snapshot showed $80,217 share of profit from the hospital’s joint venture with LHC, which reported a total profit of $243,082.

Other financial highlights included:

• Collectible patient service revenue exceeded budget by $10,247.
• Average daily census reached 8.4, outperforming the budgeted 7.1.
• Emergency Department visits, however, came in 76 below budget.
• Surgical cases met expectations, totaling 121, aligning with the monthly budget.

The hospital faced higher operating costs, totaling $110,555 above budget. Supply costs were $10,718 dollars under budget.
