Busy weekend for local sports

It was a busy weekend for area high school athletics.  The Nashville baseball squad defeated Redwater, Texas Friday evening at the Ralph Gross Tournament and then lost, by a score of 4 to 2, Saturday against Ashdown in the championship game. Scrapper players Aiden Smith, Garrett Willard, and Kason Willard were named to the All Tournament Team.

The Scrapperette Softball team won a pair of games Friday night at the Nashville City Park.  Nashville defeated Greenbrier and Camden Fairview to remain undefeated on the season.

In state basketball tournament play,  the Mineral Springs Hornets lost Friday night in the Class A tournament against Guy Perkins, 63 to 52.

Saturday, the Dierks Outlaws also saw their season come to an end, with a 45 to 31 loss against Lavaca, in the 2A State Tournament quarterfinals.

In Class 4A, the Nashville Scrapperettes kept their season going, with a 66 to 38 victory over Wynne.  The Scrapperettes will compete in the tournament’s semi-final round today against Pulaski Academy. Today’s game marks the first time the Scrapperettes have played in the state semifinals since 1973.

In Pike County, the Murfreesboro Rattlers defeated De Queen 16 to nothing in baseball this weekend.  Rattler pitcher Alex Bailey threw a perfect game to get the victory.
