Hempstead County Votes To Add Tax

Hempstead County voters have approved a one cent sales tax to be collected for two years to fund the renovation of the Farmers Bank building downtown for use as a courthouse. The final results showed 1,439 people voted for the one cent sales tax with 1,204 voting against. That breaks down to 54.45 percent voting for and 45.55 percent voting against. Collection of the tax will commence in July and will continue until July of 2022.

There were a total of 2,705 ballots cast in the county with 996 voting in the Democratic primary and 1,645 voting in the Republican primary.
