Legacy Academy Sweeps Gospel Light for 3 Wins

It was a a good night of basketball for the Legacy Warriors at home in Lockesburg Tuesday night. They hosted the Gospel Light Lions of Hot Springs in 1A conference play. Fans watched the junior boys and both the senior girls and boys play with the Lockesburg team winning all three games. 

In senior boys action, the Warriors outscored the Lions 13-10 in a competitive and fast paced first quarter. Ozzy Toledano and Eli Mitchell both gave the home team crucial three-pointers in the opening period. The teams went into the locker rooms at half time tied 26-26. The Lions roared out of the gate in the third quarter taking a nine point lead over the home team, their first for the night and giving them a 43-34 lead going into the final period. The Warriors commanded the court in the fourth quarter, outscoring the visitors 20-5 to secure a 54-48 win.

Ethan Gallagher scored 21 points for the Warriors and secured a double-double with 13 rebounds. He also led in assists. Layne Schroer worked the paint hard for the home team contributing 15 points and 12 boards to add a second double-double for the Warriors. Freshman Eli Mitchell scored 10 points, two points on a critical steal and layup to give the Warriors the lead in the fourth quarter. Ozzy Toledano won the hustle award with impressive defense and strong effort going after loose balls. Colten Heywood had 13 points for the Lions and Peyton Tackett gave 10. The Warriors are now 11-1 and host Bloomburg Texas on Friday in the school’s homecoming game.

The Lady Warriors won a crucial game in senior girls action, toppling the Lady Lions 59-55. The Lady Warriors were outscored in the first and third quarters but outscored the visitors in the second and fourth. At halftime, Legacy’s ladies were up 27-24. The fourth quarter was a nailbiter with the teams staying within a point or two of each other most of the period. With less than two minutes to go the Lady Warriors took the lead with a bucket and a free throw. Dori Bartek was fouled on a layup with less than a minute to go. Her free throws made the game a two possession game and placed it just out of reach for the Lady Lions. 

Sophomore Oaklee Lofton scored an impressive 32 points for the Lady Warriors and made it a double-double by grabbing an astounding 17 rebounds! Dori Bartek’s shots were nothing but net with 23 points for the home team and 9 rebounds. Jesse Martz grabbed another 8 boards for the Lady Warriors, while Maddie Lowrey had 6. Lakyn Johnson gave the visiting girls 22 points and AK Horton provided 26.

In junior boys action, the Warriors dominated from the beginning. At the conclusion of the first period the Warriors led 22-6 and went into the locker rooms leading 33-8 at the half. With a final score of 36-14, the Warriors were able to spread play out among the full bench. #22 Jude Gallagher was the high scorer with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Eli Mitchell followed with 8 points, while Everrette Martz had 7. Martz and Wyatt Roden each had four rebounds, Roden providing the team important defense in the paint while on the court.
