Legacy Drops Two in First Home game
Legacy Academy hosted Blevins for its first home games of the regular season Friday night. The Lockesburg teams kicked the season off with some early season jitters for the young teams but fell short of winning either game. The fans were encouraged by the potential promise of both clubs. The Lady Warriors started slow and found themselves down by 20 as one point in the first quarter. Legacy outscored Blevins in the second and third quarter, closing the game to a 4-point margin at one point early in the 4th.
The Blevins ladies found their groove in time to finish for the win, outscoring the home team 12-4 in the last 3 minutes of the quarter. Blevins’ girls picked up the victory by 9 in the end with a final score of 68-59. Junior Oaklee Lofton led the Lady Warriors with an astounding 51 points and 22 rebounds! Maddie Lowrey and Libbie Bartek both contributed 8 rebounds for the team. #3 Williamson led Blevins with 37 points, followed by 11 points from Glenn and 10 from Philips. Hernandez led Blevins’ ladies with 12 rebounds.
In the boys’ action, the Warriors stumbled out the gate and were behind by twenty at the end of the 1st quarter. Both teams scored 15 in the second quarter, putting the home team in the locker room down by twenty at halftime. In spite of a much stronger second half, the young team couldn’t recover enough to grab a win. Turnovers and the weak first quarter sealed the game. Sophomore Everrette Martz led the young team with 27 points, followed by freshman Manolo Vazquez with 24 points. Freshman Jude Gallagher led the Warriors with 9 rebounds. With no seniors and 1 junior, the Warriors are a young team, with players new to senior high play. Javier Gomez led the Blevins club with 19 points, followed by Decameron Brown with 15, Xavier Bazzelle with 12, and Rylee Powell with 11. Blevins won the game by a score of 77-61.
