LEGACY WARRIORS BATTLE GENOA IN OVERTIME
LOCKESBURG, ARK— It was a David v. Goliath night in Lockesburg Friday as the Legacy Academy Warriors battled Texarkana’s Genoa Central Dragons on the basketball court. Legacy hosted the school more than ten times its size in a game that kept fans on both sides of the gym on the edge of their seats. Genoa outpaced the Warriors in the first quarter 17-12. The home team had a better second quarter as they led scoring 15-12. Genoa led 29-27 at the half. After leading the scoring again in the third quarter, the Dragons were up by ten point in the middle of the fourth quarter. The Lockesburg team began a rally with four minutes to go, tying the game at the end of regulation 59-59 sending the game into overtime. The teams battled back and forth throughout the four minutes of overtime. Tied again with less than 1 second left in overtime, Warriors’ Ethan Gallagher scored and was fouled on the shot, giving the Warriors a two point lead. The free throw attempt was missed in the effort to convert it to a three point play. During the foul call, the referee instructed three seconds be added back to the clock. With the additional time added to the clock Genoa threw the ball down court to their #5 Devin Hankins, who shot and made a three-pointer right on the buzzer, clinching the victory for the Dragons. Bryce Moon was high scorer for the Dragons with 20 followed by 15 for Jacob Burrell. For the home team, Ethan Gallagher scored 49, grabbed 12 rebounds, had 6 steals, and 4 blocks. DJ Morris, put 11 points on the board and grabbed 6 rebounds. Corbin Wilson also had 6 rebounds. The Warriors are now 5-3 for the season and 3-0 in their conference.
