Local District Court Continues Postponements
Court systems remain under an order from the Arkansas State Supreme Court to not hold in-person proceedings. The order is set to expire May 15th.
With the in-person proceedings banned for at least a few more weeks, Howard County District Court has extended their rescheduling of cases.
Any case previously set for April 30th has been moved to May 28th. The local district court docket for May 7th has been postponed until June 4th and cases set for May 14th have been moved back to June 11th.
In planning for the resumption of court cases, Supreme Court Chief Justice Dan Kemp has sent a letter to judges around the state with several recommendations.
Based on guidelines from the health department, Chief Justice Kemp says anyone who is symptomatic or has been exposed to someone with COVID-19 should have their temperature taken and fill out a brief questionnaire upon entering the courthouse. Additionally, to protect against exposure from asymptomatic individuals, the minimum six foot social distancing requirements will continue. Masks will also be worn once the court systems have reopened.
