Man Arrested After Allegedly Firing Shotgun at Home and Vehicle in Pike County
A man is in custody following an early morning shooting incident that left a home and vehicle damaged in rural Pike County.
According to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report on May 26, 2025, from a resident who stated that around 3:00 a.m., a man—identified by authorities as 33 year old Phillip Lain Janes of Dierks—allegedly fired a shotgun at the victim’s vehicle and house.
The following day, investigators interviewed the homeowner, who said that just before the shooting, a family member received a phone call from Janes’ mother warning them about his intentions.
While still on the phone, headlights were seen in the driveway, followed by two gunshots.
During the investigation, Janes’ mother told investigators that he had come to his parents’ house before the incident and was experiencing what she described as an “episode.” She stated that he retrieved his turkey vest and a youth model 20-gauge shotgun before leaving.
At the scene, deputies recovered two spent 20-gauge shotgun shells and a piece of shotgun wadding from the yard. The gunfire damaged the back glass, side window, and driver’s side mirror of the vehicle, as well as a window on the home.
Janes was later located and arrested at a Choctaw Travel Center in Antlers, Oklahoma, by Tribal Police. He is currently being held on local charges there, with possible charges pending in Arkansas.
