Martin Luther King Day Observed Monday
Monday marked the federal observance honoring the birthday of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Speaking about Dr. King, Nashville Minister Willie Fred Snell said King’s desire to fight for equality was for all races of people.
If King was still alive today, Snell says he think the civil rights leader would say a lot has been accomplished, but a lot of work remains as well.
Dr. King’s birthday is January 15th. The federal holiday in his honor was first observed January 20th, 1986 after President Ronald Reagan signed a bill setting aside the third Monday of January as the holiday.
