Nashville defeats Mena in baseball and softball

For a large part of Tuesday’s baseball game at Mena, it appeared the Nashville Scrappers post season might be in doubt.  However, 6 runs in the 6th inning pushed the Scrappers to a 9 to 8 victory.  Nashville also holds on to the third seed in the district, with the top four teams advancing to the upcoming regional tournament.

Nashville trailed three to nothing, before the offense found home plate, scoring two runs in the 5th inning.

A pair of Scrapper senior pitchers combined for the Nashville win.  Garrett Willard started the contest and pitched five innings.  Willard gave up five runs, while striking out 7 Bearcat batters.  Ethan Gunter came on in relief to secure the Nashville victory.  At the plate, Garrett Willard was also the leading batter for Nashville, collecting three hits on the day.

The Scrappers will close out conference play Friday at Fountain Lake, with a contest against the Cobras.

Playing at the same complex in Mena, the Scrapperette Softball squad was able to put only two runs on the board in their game Tuesday afternoon, however, they made those runs stand for a two to nothing victory.  Mena managed just three hits in the game.

The Scrapperettes will host De Queen in a make up game Thursday afternoon and close out district play Friday at Fountain Lake
