Mineral City Council Holds Special Meeting to Discuss 2025 Budget and Employee Salaries
On Monday evening, the Mineral City Council held a special called meeting to review the city’s 2024 budget reconciliation and make key decisions regarding the proposed 2025 budget. Several important motions were made, impacting the city’s finances, employee salaries, and upcoming events.
The meeting began with the council approving a motion to transfer $1,666 dollars from the city’s bond account back into the General Fund. The motion passed unanimously, signaling a minor adjustment in the city’s financial operations.
Alderman James Jean then introduced a motion to amend the Mayor’s recommended budget for 2025, which was seconded by Alderman Earle Hadden. After some discussion, the motion was also approved unanimously by the council.
Another key item discussed was the salary review for several city employees. In a 4-2 vote, the council agreed to maintain the current salaries for key staff members: Public Works Supervisor Eric Marks will continue to receive $3,000 annually, and Recorder Treasurer and Parks Director Denise Juniel will retain her $3,600 annual salary for the 2025 fiscal year.
The council also approved several other budget-related motions. The Mayor will receive a $100 per month pay raise, totaling an additional $1,200 annually. Full-time sanitation workers will get a $600 annual pay raise, while part-time workers’ pay will remain the same. Additionally, the water clerk’s salary will remain at $1,200 annually.
In a gesture of appreciation for the hard work of city employees, the council approved a $250 Christmas bonus for all city staff, which will be distributed on November 27th.
During the meeting, the mayor informed the council of a $1,602.20 increase in the animal control fee, which sparked some discussion. Aldermen Charles Deloney and James Jean seconded a motion to accept the proposed increase, which was approved unanimously by the council.
Juniel took a moment to thank the community members who participated in this year’s fall festival.
Juniel also updated the council on upcoming events and initiatives for the city.
The meeting concluded with the council voting not to meet on Monday, November 11th.
