Mineral Springs City Council approves purchase of new police cruiser
The city of Mineral Springs has decided to purchase a brand new police car. At the last regular monthly meeting, Chief Fransisco Mercado addressed the department’s vehicle needs. A committee was formed and gave their findings during a special council meeting Tuesday evening. The conclusion was to purchase a new 2022 Dodge Charger. Aldermen were split on their opinion, and Mayor Vera Marks wound up voting in favor of purchasing the new vehicle, to break a 3-3 council tie.
The car is expected to cost approximately $40,000 dollars and will be paid from a portion of the city’s American Rescue Plan funds.
Also Tuesday, council members approved a contractor’s bid of $1,500 dollars to clean up two pieces of property on Schaal Road. Efforts to persuade the property owner to get the work done, have been unsuccessful. The city will put a lien on the property, following the clean up.
