Mineral Springs Council Approves Mask Ordinance

Mineral Springs has joined the list of Arkansas towns who have enacted an ordinance requiring mask wearing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The ordinance was approved at Monday’s council meeting on a 4-2 vote.

City officials will begin notifying businesses of the new ordinance before it goes into place. Any person who refuses to wear a mask inside a business who requests customers do so can be removed from the business by police.

An agreement with a Hope internet provider looking to add high speed internet service in the Nashville and Mineral Springs area was rejected by the council. Premiere Broadband requested use of the Mineral Springs water tower to distribute its broadband service. In return, the company would provide phone and internet service free of charge to the city.

The council also voted Monday to amend the town’s peddler ordinance. The new ordinance would reduce the peddler’s fee to only 50 dollars a year. Council members are expected to adopt the new ordinance next month.
