Mineral Springs Mayor Resigns
Mineral Springs City Council met Monday evening discussing a number of events. The official resignation of Recorder Treasurer, April Teague, was accepted by unanimous vote of council members. Mayor Steve Dixon gave the floor for discussion on the topic. After consideration of options the council voted and approved for Kathy Jones to fill the position for a term of 2 months while the council seeks to find someone for the elected position. They also approved for her to receive the same rate of pay for this term that previous recorder treasurer, Teague, received. After further discussion a motion was made to advertise this position in the paper which passed. A motion was then proposed to move forward in this process by way of special election. 2 council members voted for with 3 opposing. The motion did not pass. Those of the public in attendance were offered a time for any comments. William Tabler, resident of mineral springs, brought into question an expenditure on the cities provided documents for the session totaling $144. This expense was the cost of having a new city car delivered to the town. Before Adjourning, Mayor Steve Dixon, handed out his own letter of resignation effective today, July 13th 2021. Dixon stated he has tried to work with the council and members of the public but felt that too many personal feelings have come through the door and entered the sessions hindering making progress in the sessions. The council voted to adjourn what could be felt as a tense and divided session.
