Mineral Springs School Board addresses ADA concerns

Mineral Springs School District Superintendent Billy Lee informed the members of the school board that he and high school principal, Jondavid Amerson had received a formal letter concerning Americans with Disabilities Access concerns.

Lee stated the district has a new student who is in a wheelchair and his parents had expressed their concern about the accessibility of certain parts of the campus. Those areas included the parking lot between the new building and the old high school building and the gravel parking lot in front of Hornet stadium.

Lee said he had considered pouring concrete sidewalks, but that project was cost prohibitive. Instead, Lee suggested the district pave the areas in question to provide equal access to those facilities.

The cost of paving the two parking lots is $42,050.

In other news, the Mineral Springs School District entered into a 10-year lease agreement with the Saratoga Bulldogs Reunited Committee for the buildings on the right side of the highway. The agreement was for $25,000 a year, however the district will waive that amount if the committee mows and maintains the property in Saratoga.
