Mineral Springs School Board Holds Regular Monthly Meeting
The Mineral Springs School Board held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, where several key decisions were made.
President William Dixon recommended the renewal of Superintendent JonDavid Amerson’s contract for two years at a salary of $110,000 per year. The contract, which will run from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027, was approved with a unanimous vote of 6-0 following a motion by Ricky Gamble and a second by Ray Hawkins.
In personnel matters, Superintendent Amerson presented the resignation of Jason Hathcock as the Mineral Springs Head Football Coach, which was accepted by the board with a motion from Dorothy Vaughn and a second from Xavier Vaughn, also passing 6-0.
The board also approved a policy change in the 2024-2025 student handbook. Superintendent Amerson recommended upgrading the vaping policy from a Level II offense to a Level III offense, resulting in an immediate 5-day out-of-school suspension. The motion was approved 6-0 after being presented by board member Ricky Gamble and seconded by Ray Hawkins.
Superintendent Amerson shared positive news regarding the school district’s progress, including the release from Directed Literacy Support by the state department, acknowledging the hard work of the K-12 staff. He also announced that the district had received a $57,000 safety grant and was in the process of finalizing a PLC grant.
The meeting concluded with all motions passing unanimously, reinforcing the district’s commitment to academic growth and community engagement.
