Mineral Springs Special Session
The Mineral Springs city council met in a special called session last night. First for the meeting was the filling of the council seat formerly held by Ashley Thomas. Thomas was a representative in ward 3 and, according to Mayor Vera Marks, left the position to further pursue her education. Filling her spot and sworn in by Justice of the Peace, Don Marks, was Vanessa Hendrix. The council members voted in unanimous fashion for her taking the seat.
In further business the ongoing issues with the city’s trash truck was addressed. During last week’s pickup route alternative means of hauling the city’s trash had to be used due to the truck being down. The city voted and approved for the purchase of a new truck last year, however, the receiving date, according to Mayor Vera Marks, had been continuously pushed back. Department Head Eric Marks proposed another option. After the cancellation of the truck purchased last year he recommended a truck which had been found approximately 90 miles away in Poyen. The truck being considered was a 2022 20 yard Freightliner to be leased on a 2 year buyback program with payments equalling $2,495 per month. Arkansas Municipal Equipment currently owns the truck and had a representative at the meeting who spoke to giving the city a loaner truck for immediate use but said that he expected to be able to deliver the brand new truck in approximately 5 days. City council members agreed unanimously voting in favor for the purchase of the truck.
