MS Superintendent speaks at Nashville Rotary Club meeting

The Mineral Springs School District Superintendent, Billy Lee was the guest speaker during this week’s Nashville Rotary meeting.

Lee stated he was excited to serve the Mineral Springs School District, because he was able to do what was best for the students.

Lee reported the Mineral Springs School District went from being the poorest school district in the state to the second wealthiest. He said the district is self-sufficient and self-funded. Lee said the district does not receive any state funding, thanks to the tax revenue from the Turk Power Plant.

Next year, the Mineral Springs School District will go to a 4-day week. Lee said the school board approved the 4-day week to help kids, but he said it won’t save the district any money because they will have Monday school for kids needing remediation.

Lee said the district just installed a reading vending machine in the cafeteria. He said students will earn tokens and be able to purchase books.

Lee also reported he hopes to convert the Saratoga campus into a vocational school. The district is remodeling the old high school to be the new administration building and the old cafeteria is being used as the Mule Shoe food pantry and community building.

Lee stated that today’s Mineral Springs School District is not the old Mineral Springs school district and invited the public to tour the campus.
