Murfreesboro Chamber Holds Annual Banquet
The best of Murfreesboro was recognized Thursday night during the annual chamber of commerce awards banquet.
Darlene Watson was named the Volunteer of the Year. Watson is active with the Pike County Archives and also volunteers in a variety of ways for the Murfreesboro Senior Adult Center.
Four people associated with the school district received honors.
Melissa Jones was named the high school teacher of the year. Jones has taught school 22 years including 18 with the Pike County district.
The Murfreesboro Elementary Teacher of the Year honor was presented to first grade teacher Laura Hughes. She has spent 29 years in education.
Danny Eckert received the Rattler Award. Eckert is a ten year district employee. He serves as the high school office manager along with volunteering in numerous other areas related to the school district.
Murfreesboro Senior Brandon White was honored as the Student of the Year.
Eight businesses that formed in Murfreesboro were also recognized at Thursday’s banquet.
Guest speaker for the event was Caleb Howell, Park Superintendent at the Crater of Diamonds.
