Nashville City Council approves Parks Director to apply for matching grant

At the Nashville City Council meeting on Monday, Parks Director Meghan Floyd reported her intention to apply for another matching grant for parks and recreation, a move requiring council approval.

Floyd presented a resolution concerning Nashville’s aim to enhance its recreational facilities and its pursuit of grant funding assistance. To secure these funds, the park must acquire an outdoor recreation matching grant from the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism. The aldermen approved a motion to adopt the resolution as Floyd proposed.

Floyd also outlined some recent improvements made at the park.

Additionally, Police Chief Amy Marion notified the council that her department is seeking grants, specifically a 90/10 grant.

Marion mentioned that they are applying for grants to fund the purchase of a new K-9, as their current K-9, Apollo, is aging. Marion noted that the total cost for acquiring and training a new dog, along with the officer’s training, will exceed $20,000. She concluded by noting that if a grant is not secured by October, during the budget meeting, they will consider alternative options.
