Nashville City Council votes to keep millage rates the same

Aldermen of the Nashville City Council held their regular monthly meeting yesterday.

Mayor Larry Dunaway presented a resolution that was in regard to levying the city millage for 2023 to be collected in 2024. In the resolution it explains that the rates would remain the same 3.6 mills. There was a motion made by aldermen Donna Harwell and seconded by Phil Jones to approve the resolution and to keep the millage rates the same. All were in favor of the motion.

Dunaway presented another resolution that was in regard to the city of Nashville entering a consent administrative order with the Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment, Division of Environmental Quality. Dunaway informed the council that the city has been put under a CAO from DEQ down at the sewer plant and what it’s concerning is sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs). Dunaway stated that they had quite a few overflows and the day that DEQ showed up for their annual inspection at the plant was during the time of the heavy rainfall and they found some violations. Dunaway said the new rule was every time that the city got an enforcement a resolution would have to be presented to the city council. After further discussion, there was a motion made by aldermen Donna Harwell and Kathy Combs to approve the resolution. All were in favor of the motion.

In conclusion, John Gray of Pafford Medical Services asked the council if they could approve the Ambulance Service Agreement along with the updated rate schedule. After further discussion and concerns from council members there was a motion made by aldermen Herbert Turley and seconded by Jimmy Dale to approve the Ambulance Service Agreement.
