Nashville City Parks Director discusses applying for a Matching Grant at City Council Meeting

Monday, Aldermen of the Nashville City Council had an open discussion at their regular monthly meeting about a resolution presented by Parks and Recreation Director Meghan Floyd.

The resolution was in regard to allowing Director Floyd to apply for an Outdoor Recreation Matching Grant from the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism to improve the recreation facilities. According to the plan there will be two additional tennis courts added along with additional striping for pickleball, court fencing, court lighting, and a parking area. Floyd mentioned to the council that she met with Nashville School Districts Superintendent Doug Graham and that Graham said if the Park would go after the grant, then the school district would fund the remaining funds along with signing an MOA.

Aldermen Jimmy Dale proposed to the council that if the resolution is approved the school should help out with maintaining and the upkeep of the facility for events that the school district hosts. Floyd said once they get everything going with the grant an agreement will be written up. There was a motion made by aldermen Donna Harwell and seconded by Kay Gathright to approve the resolution. All were in favor of the motion.
