Nashville Junior Scrappers Claim Conference Championship with Victory Over Malvern
In an exciting Thursday night matchup, the Nashville Junior Scrappers secured the conference championship with a decisive 27-8 win against the Malvern Junior Leopards in Malvern.
Malvern won the coin toss and opted to defer, giving the Junior Scrappers the first chance to strike. Nashville quickly made their presence felt with a seven-play drive, with a touchdown run by quarterback Jacoby Hopson.
Kicker Bayron Murillo added the extra point, putting Nashville ahead early, 7 to 0. The Scrappers showcased their defensive skills by stopping Malvern on a crucial fourth down, allowing them to maintain their lead.
Just before the end of the first quarter, Trendon Northcross scored another touchdown for Nashville, although the two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving the score at 13-0.
The second quarter saw Malvern respond with a touchdown of their own, successfully converting the two-point attempt to bring the score 13 to 8 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Nashville’s Northcross made a game-changing interception.
But, the Scrappers were unable to capitalize as Malvern regained possession after a defensive stand.
As the fourth quarter unfolded, Malvern’s punting error gave Nashville excellent field position at the six-yard line. Hopson took advantage, scoring another touchdown and extending the lead to 20-8 with Murillo’s extra point.
Khamari Canaday capped off the scoring with a final touchdown, with another successful extra point, bringing the game to its final score of 27-8.
With this victory, the Junior Scrappers concluded their season as conference champions, finishing with an impressive 6-0 record in conference play and an overall record of 8-2. The team celebrated their hard-earned success and a season filled with achievements.
