Nashville Looks At Chance For High Speed Wireless
A new high speed wireless internet provider is looking at coming to Nashville.
Mayor Billy Ray Jones says a Hope company has approached city officials about placing antennas on water towers in town. In addition to the Nashville towers, mayor Jones said the company is also considering putting its antennas on water towers owned by Nashville Rural Water and the city of Mineral Springs.
The internet service area would cover about a four mile radius surrounding each location where an antenna is placed. Jones also stated the signal could possibly reach another couple miles to homes with the use of a residential antenna.
The wireless internet is expected to have download and upload speeds of 50 megabits per second and cost in the neighborhood of 50 dollars per month.
The service would utilize fiber optics cable that is within the city and company officials say it might be up to a year before the service is available.
