Nashville Park and Recreation Commission prepares for upcoming projects

Tuesday afternoon, the Nashville Park and Recreation Commission held their regular monthly meeting.

Parks Director Meghan Floyd reported that they are currently still working with the engineer to finalize the job cost report to continue the grant process. Floyd added that they should have that complete and the final packet ready to review for the June meeting to submit for purchase of lights and sidewalks for the T-Ball Complex and adding two poles to the soccer complex and replacing the wood poles at the tennis courts with metal poles.

Floyd also informed the board that there have been several occasions when the soccer lights box has been pried open to override the timers and turn the soccer lights on prior to 6:30 or past 10:30. She stated that the last instance broke the entire box in a way where they can no longer fix it or lock it up. They ended up turning the breaker to the socker lights off at the back of the park due to this issue. To resolve this matter, they decided to fix the handle to the breaker box and put a covering over it with a lock attached to it.

Andi Green spoke to the commission about the benefits of bringing pickleball to the community.

Pickleball is a court sport played on a badminton-size court with the net set to a height of 34 inches at the center. It is played with a perforated plastic ball and composite or wooden paddles about twice the size of ping-pong paddles.

In conclusion, Floyd handed out brochures to the committee that had upcoming sports and camps information on it. It also included dates, age ranges, and registration fees per camp along with QR codes on the backside.
