Nashville Parks and Recreation Commission Reports on Fall Activities and Facility Updates

On Tuesday afternoon, the Nashville Parks and Recreation Commission convened for their regular monthly meeting, where Parks and Recreation Director Meghan Floyd provided updates on youth sports programs and facility improvements.

Floyd announced the successful registration for the upcoming flag football season, which begins on September 30th. The league has attracted 39 children aged 4 to 5, organized into five teams; 57 children aged 6 to 7, forming six teams; and 48 children aged 8 to 10, also with five teams. Notably, two of these teams are composed entirely of girls, reflecting the program’s inclusive approach.

In addition to flag football, Floyd reported that registration is now open for the Basketball 3-6 and K-2 programs. This initiative is part of a collaboration with neighboring communities, including Murfreesboro, Springhill, Ashdown, and Dequeen. Teams will travel to compete on Saturdays, while the 3-6 program will host games on weekdays in Nashville.

Floyd also provided updates on facility enhancements. She announced that the pickleball courts have been completed and painted, ready for use. She shared pricing for new nets, which are $299.99 each, and for bleachers for the pickleball courts, with a 2-row option costing $2,396 and a 3-row option at $3,099. To maximize resources, Floyd suggested relocating the existing bleachers from the basketball area to the pickleball area.
