Nashville Rotary Club Hears Presentation From Mayfly Project
Representatives of The Mayfly Project, Matt and Kim Bearden, were the guest speakers at this week’s Nashville Rotary Club meeting.
Kim and Matt said the Mayfly Project uses fly fishing as a catalyst to mentor and support children in foster care. She said the Mayfly Project’s mission is to build relationships with children in foster care through fly fishing.
The Mayfly Project has chapters in 28 states with about 500 mentors. There are three chapters in Arkansas. Matt is the lead mentor with the Southwest Arkansas Chapter and Kim is on the state board of directors.
Since 2016, the Southwest Arkansas Mayfly Project Chapter has mentored 16 kids. Matt said it costs $780 to sponsor each child in a project.
Matt and Kim stated there are several ways people can help the Mayfly Project mentor more foster care children.
Matt stated the Mayfly Project gives foster kids a little time to forget their problems and focus on mending their fly fishing lines and their lives.
