Nashville School Board approves construction of bus shed on elementary campus
The Nashville School Board has voted to use $123,000 dollars of district funds to purchase a metal shed to house the district’s six newest school buses purchased with federal Esser funds. At a lengthy meeting Monday evening, the board accepted a bid on the project from Doyle Howard Construction that will provide a 50 by 72 foot building. School officials say they are trying to protect the buses from the outdoor elements. The shed will be constructed in an area behind the elementary school.
Another topic at Monday’s meeting was a community gym use discussion. Drew Moody spoke with the board about a youth basketball league being allowed to utilize the junior high school gym, or possibly the senior high gym. Moody said his son was part of the summer basketball league that has been playing at Whiteside Gym this summer. Even with the city working to get exhaust fans installed, Moody said it’s still too hot in the building for spectators. Moody stated he felt the youth teams should be allowed to use the school district’s facilities because they are paid by taxpayer monies. Superintendent Doug Graham said the district has a policy in place that doesn’t include use of its campus gymnasiums. Board members expressed no interest in deviating from, or changing, that policy.
