Nashville School Board Approves Contract Renewals and Safety Upgrades During Monthly Meeting

At Monday night’s regular monthly meeting, the Nashville School Board made several key decisions regarding personnel and school improvements. Among the actions taken, the Board approved the renewal of contracts for several district leaders, ensuring continuity for the upcoming school year.

The contracts renewed included James Nichols as Transportation and Maintenance Director and Athletic Director, Tate Gordon as Assistant Superintendent, and Ashley Riggs as High School Principal. Additionally, the board renewed the contracts for Hannah Topor as Junior High Principal, Nathan Evans as Primary Principal, Tyra Hughes as Elementary Principal, and Kim Slayton as Curriculum Coordinator.

The board also voted to accept several resignations, including Abbie Jackson as Junior High ELA teacher, Lori Williams as Junior High Math teacher, John Mark Tollett as Senior High Math teacher, and Rebecca Fortenberry as Elementary Special Education teacher.

Superintendent Doug Graham then provided an update on upcoming improvements at the Primary School.

Graham announced that the district has received a safety grant totaling $133,934, which will be used to enhance security measures across the schools.

After further discussion, the Board unanimously passed a motion to approve Superintendent Graham’s recommendation to proceed with bids for the Primary School upgrades, totaling $30,000. They also approved Graham’s recommendation on the use of the safety grant funds.

The meeting concluded with a renewed focus on strengthening both the safety and leadership of the Nashville School District as the school year progresses.
