Nashville School District SROs speak to Nashville Rotary Club

The Nashville School District’s School Resource Officers spoke during the weekly meeting of the Nashville Rotary Club.

SRO Hector Cortez and SRO Danielle Terwilliger were introduced by Nashville Police Chief Amy Marion. She said there are currently 17 full-time officers in the department. Marion said the department started the School Resource Officer program in 2019 with one officer and now the department has two. She also introduced Nashville Police Department Lieutenant Clint Tedford.

Tedford has been with the Nashville Police Department for 23 years and is now in a supervisory position.

SRO Cortez explained he and Terwilliger patrol all four Nashville campuses and provide a police presence at sporting events in the district. He stated SROs are employed by the city and contracted by the district. Cortez also stated that he felt his main job was mentoring students, while interacting with them and teachers.

Terwilliger started working as a SRO in January after she graduated from the Arkansas Police Academy in East Camden. She completed the 13-week academy and will be attending a 40-hour SRO training class this summer.

Terwilliger said she enjoyed patrolling the primary campus because you get a lot of hugs and high fives.
Next week, the Nashville Rotary will hear from the organizers of the Glory Bee Soup Kitchen at the Mineral Springs Church of Christ.
