NPD warns public of rental property scams
The Nashville Police Department has reported that unknown persons are posting houses for rent in Nashville and requiring a $50 application fee and $200 safety deposit before meeting to look at the property.
It was also reported that when the potential renter pays the application fee and safety deposit and then makes an appointment to view the rental property, there is someone living in the house and the advertised house is not actually for rent, resulting in the potential renter being scammed of $250 for the application fee and safety deposit.
Officers also reported that the advertisement and all communication has been done through Facebook and the required payment is Cash App or some other fast cash payment. NPD wants to make the public aware of this scam when searching for rental property.
