Pike County Extension Homemakers report
Pike County Extension Agent Karalee Black is encouraging Pike County residents to get involved in the Extension Homemakers of Pike County. Extension Homemakers is a volunteer organization that works closely with the Pike County Cooperative Extension Service.
Members learn through educational programs in the areas of health and wellness, personal finance and consumer economics, food and nutrition, and family life and personal development.
EHC clubs meet once a month to receive research based information to improve the lives of members and their families. In addition, they give back to the communities they live in through a variety of community service projects. Last year, the two Pike County EHC clubs contributed 4,015 volunteer hours with an estimated dollar value of $120,249. They accomplished this by celebrating the 100th year of the Pike County Fair by making 100 pillow cases and 100 hats that were donated to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital and they picked up 100 bags of trash.
EHC members also develop leadership skills that increase their self-confidence, improves their communication skills and enables them to become more active.
Pike County has two active EHC clubs. They are the East Delight EHC club and the Pisgah EHC club.
East Delight meets the second Monday of the month at 1 pm in Delight and Pisgah meets on the first Thursday of the moth at 9 am in Delight.
