Pike County Quorum Court
The Pike County Quorum Court held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday night.
During the meeting, Justices of the Peace approved a motion to hire a new SRO Officer for the South Pike County School for the remainder of the 2023 School Year along with the school reimbursing the county 100 percent of the salary and benefits of the new officer. The existing officer position will be discussed at the next meeting.
Judge Eddie Howard then addressed the landfill tax and the change made at regional landfill. Howard talked about the abuse of individuals and businesses dumping at the regional landfill and charging it to the county. Judge Howard encouraged the quorum to pass an ordinance to enforce change since the past ordinance was vague on what items could actually be accepted at the county landfill. Justice Robbie Crocker stated that he would like to see the county landfill upgraded with a new ramp and more bins since it would be seeing more traffic with the enforced change at the regional landfill. JPs were in full support of the change made and told Judge Howard to present the ordinance defining the dumping at the next meeting.
In conclusion, Judge Howard requested the Quorum County set a time and date for the grievance hearing of Johnny Ray Wise. There was an 8 to 0 vote to accept a motion to set the primary hearing on July 31st at 7pm with an alternate date of August 7th.
