Rotary Club
The Rotary Club met Wednesday afternoon with Rose Ray from the Howard County Children’s center presenting. Ray said this year marks the 50th anniversary of the Children’s center since its opening In 1971. Since that time countless clients have been served in the Howard County area by its facilities and staff.
Group housing available for adult residents and programs centered around their needs allows the Center to teach important life skills in self-sufficiency such as personal grooming, hygiene, housekeeping, cooking, and even career skill opportunities.
39 year old, Sandy Lowry, a resident at the center, spoke Wednesday telling Rotary members the impact the center has had on her life and how the independent life skills taught have meant so much to her.
Ray said the funding it takes to provide these services mainly stem from community donations, as they are a 501(c)(3) non profit, and often come through fundraising events sponsored by local businesses.
