Texarkana man arrested on drug and firearm charges
On January 8th 2023, Nashville Patrol Officer David Shelby observed a white Chevrolet Tahoe parked in the ditch at the intersection of 7th Street and Gaines Street.
It was reported that when Officer Shelby approached the vehicle, he detected the odor of marijuana. Shelby also noticed that the vehicle was unoccupied, a handgun between the driver’s seat and the center console, a bottle of Crown Royal whiskey, and the keys were in the ignition.
As reported Officer Shelby located a Crown Royal velvet bag in the passenger side floorboard which contained a plastic bag with vegetable substance believed to be marijuana inside and one other bag containing a green vegetable substance believed to be marijuana.
Officer Shelby reportedly retrieved a container with a green vegetable substance believed to be marijuana, a Taurus 9mm handgun, one set of digital scales, and two metal plates with suspected marijuana residue.
Nashville Patrol Sergeant Ty Basiliere came to assist Shelby to do an inventory search.
It was reported that while officers were there, a black male had arrived and he told Officer Shelby that he was the only one driving the vehicle.
The suspect was identified as 22 year old Marquavius J Watson of Texarkana.
It was also reported that Watson tried to resist arrest and led the officers on a foot pursuit but was taken into custody on south 4th street. Officers learned that Watson was on probation, has a conviction for aggravated assault in Miller County, and is assigned to Probation Officer Jennifer Tigue.
Watson was transported to the Howard County Detention Facility and was charged with Simultaneous Possession of Drugs and Firearms, Possession of Firearms by Certain Persons, Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance Marijuana with the Purpose to Deliver, Fleeing, and Resisting Arrest.
