Two Drug Arrests In Howard County

Two people have been arrested following a traffic stop in Mineral Springs.   Authorities say sheriff’s deputy Justin Garner stopped the vehicle on Highway 355 for having a a shattered glass.  As the deputy approached the vehicle, reports said he detected the smell of marijuana coming from the car.  During the investigation, reports said the female driver handed the deputy a small bag of suspected marijuana.  While searching the vehicle, deputy Garner said he recovered two cigar packages which contained nine more packages of the suspected drug.  According to the sheriff’s department, the ten containers held more than 15 grams of suspected marijuana.  25 year old Dantrell Duckett of Texarkana, Arkansas, was arrested and has been charged with a felony count of possessing a controlled substance with purpose to deliver. 

Another passenger, 31 year old Carlos Johnson of Washington, was also arrested after deputies said they discovered a pill bottle inside Johnson’s hoodie.  According to deputies, the bottle contained six individually wrapped pills believed to be ecstasy.  Johnson was also arrested and is facing the same felony charge as Duckett. 

Both men said they planned to sell the drugs at their place of employment.  Johnson told police he was trying to make extra Christmas money for his children.

The female driver was not charged.
