Weather Service Confirms Tornadoes Locally
A half dozen tornadoes occurred Saturday afternoon and evening in southwest Arkansas including one near Blevins. Officials with the National Weather Service in Shreveport surveyed the damage areas and made their report Monday.
A small tornado, at only 20 yards wide with winds of 70 miles per hour, caused some tree limb damage as it crossed Highway 371 east of Blevins around 6:45 p.m. Saturday. The tornado was estimated to be on the ground for less than half a mile.
Two tornadoes were reported in Little River county. One of which was southwest of Foreman that caused no damage and the other was west of Fulton where one home received some minor roof damage.
The strongest tornadoes, with winds estimated at 100 miles per hour, caused damage east of Texarkana and near Waldo.
There was also a tornado with 90 mile per hour winds that caused mostly tree damage in the Bodcaw area of Nevada County.
