A weekly wrap of news seen this week. The Arkansas Legislative Council reviewed details of a new program designed to benefit Arkansans by providing funding to qualifying individuals to complete online training at no cost in order to help meet the workforce needs across the state. Training programs include areas such as business, construction, health care, technology, and more.
The Arkansas Department of Agriculture Forestry Division upgraded the Wildfire Danger in Arkansas specifically to Howard county from Low risk to Moderate. This due in part to dry conditions and an estimation of little to no rainfall in the coming weeks as per data from the US National Weather Service in Little Rock.
The intersection exiting Walmart from the North side by the Murphy gas station no longer allows for left hand turns. This action was a concerted effort by both Walmart and Nashville Police Department. In the past this specific intersection has proven itself to be a cause for concern due to a high number of traffic accidents. Exiting to the left to enter town will now require you to leave through the intersection with the light. The hopes are to minimize accidents in this area and ensure the safety of the public, according to Nashville PD.
An last Attorney General Leslie Rutledge announced this week the distribution of $500,000 to be given to local Police Departments in the form of grants for the purchase of nonlethal public safety equipment. This may include items such as body cameras, bullet proof vests, de-escalation training, and agency accreditation programs.
