Where is Santa? Track Him with NORAD.

Tonight is the night. Santa Clause himself is preparing for the big trip. A trip that takes all year to prepare for and is led by 9 reindeer. We all know them, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder (Donner), Blitzen, and of course our red nosed friend, Rudolph. Who is known to lead the way due to his bright shining red nose.

What folks may not know is that Santa and those leading the way are tracked as they make their journey every year.  The North American Aerospace Defense Command known as “NORAD” is a United States and Canda bi-national organization which defends the homeland through aerospace warning and control for North America. Headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, NORAD’s mission has evolved over the years but continues to constantly watch the skies of the United States and Canada.

Every year Rudolph’s nose is detected on satellites in control by NORAD due to the infrared signature it gives off similar to that of a missile launch. Canadian and American jet fighters are scrambled every year and given the direct order to escort jolly ole Saint Nick across his North American journey. It’s believed Santa has come to appreciate this escort as after years of outrunning NORAD’s fighter pilots he actually slows down a bit so our jets can keep up.

NORAD has technical data on Santa’s sleigh as constructed by some of the world’s leading scientists. His sleigh is believed to be 75 CC in length (or candy canes), has a propulsion power of 9 RP (or reindeer power), which is helpful as it is believed the sleigh’s weight at takeoff is around 75,000 GD (or gumdrops). The sleigh is armed with antlers which are believed to be purely for defensive purposes and has a max speed of that which is faster than starlight.

You too can join in on the Santa Tracking fun. But remember, don’t stay up all night tracking the big red man himself as he only visits your house when you are asleep. As NORAD’s radio has often heard…”Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night”
